Italy surpasses France as Tunisia’s top trading partner

June 2, 2018 - Italy became Tunisia’s top commercial supplier in 2017, surpassing France, which had historically been the country’s top trading partner, according to the latest figures from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reported by Tunisian news agency TAP. Last year, Italian imports to Tunisia reached 3.16 billion dollars, with France a close second at 3.04 billion dollars, according to the Tunisian Observatory of Economy. Three main trends could be seen among the country’s top five trading partners in 2017: a substantial reduction in import volume between 2010 and 2017 for the county’s top two suppliers, France and Italy (28% and 18% respectively); a stagnant situation in imports from Germany, down 4%; and an upward trend for both China and Turkey, with imports up 37% and 51% respectively between 2010 and 2017.
